FILER

Split Screen Makes it Easier to Transfer Files Between Drives and Directories

FILER's Split screen (F7) function makes it easier to Copy or Move files from one drive or directory to another. With the exception of one step, the procedure is the same on either Palmtop.

Lets say you have a text file MESSAGE.DOC in your C:\_DAT directory and you want to back it up on your RAM card.

  1. 1. Go to FILER and press (F7) (Split) to display a split screen.
  2. 2. Use your arrow keys to move the cursor to the left screen, highlight _DAT and press (ENTER). This moves you to the _DAT subdirectory.
  3. 3. Press (RightArrow) to move the cursor to the right screen. Then do the following:
  4. 4a. ON THE 100/200LX press (ESC) a couple of times until you're at the Available Drives screen. Make sure you have a card in the memory card slot, highlight A and press (ENTER).
  5. 4b. ON THE 95LX make sure you have a card in the memory slot, press (F5) (Goto), type in A: and press (ENTER).
  6. 5. Now the files in C:\_DAT are displayed on the left and the files on the memory card on the right. Press (LeftArrow) to go back to the left hand screen, highlight MESSAGE.DOC press (F2) to copy the file to the memory card.
You could also use this method to copy or move files between different directories on the same drive. One advantage of using the split screen method is that you see what's on both drives. The other advantage is that you don't have to type in the destination path. The (F2) Copy command sends the file to the drive and directory to the other side of the screen.
